J.R.’s Club Comment & Sunday Selections

28 June 2026

Up to the last week in June, we role , and what a mixed bag of winter weather we have had to deal with this week.

Things look to be picking up on Saturday , and Sunday actually could be quite reasonable and even a little warmer than the rest of the week, so join us at the Sports Bowl on Sunday  for 12 races , the opener is off and chasing at 12.48pm and the last is in the starters hands at 4.22pm., so a nice quick program .

The fields contain one or two standouts , but most events contain a  number of strong chances, which means good betting opportunities.

We have a Last Man Standing scheduled for Sunday , with a nice $500 prize to any team going all the way and having the largest value on their ticket at the end.

Its the last Sunday of the month , so the members draw will be made after Race 10 and a member that is on course will go home with a crisp $100 note.

We will also have a very handy Kitchen Appliance up for grabs on R11 , so get those entries in , we will draw out 7 names , assign a dog to each of those seven people and the person assigned the winning dog , will take home the appliance and the others will get a $10 betting voucher.

Star bets carries on with the  leader having a $5 break at present , but 4 weeks to go , so still time to pull back that margin. R3 is the first of the Star Bet races this week , so get those entries in early.

Our wonderful caterer , Gary and his team will be providing us all with one of his excellent lunches , so please feel free to partake.

We welcome the Waiuku Golf Club members back this week , we always enjoy their company on race day.

Now last  week we nabbed 8 of the 11 winners, probably the best we have ever done , so are we good enough to repeat the dose?

R1 No2 Big Time Central . Hugged the rails to score last week , and perfectly place to do the same. No5 Jean Genie , will need to display that explosive box speed again to test her.

R2 No3 Gizmo’s Gadget just needs a better start to score here. No7 Riverman Richard went close last week.

R3 Can No7 Portland Sasha gain a deserved win today, or will No5 Val Jewel get underneath her on the turn and get the cash.

R4 Even go here. Like the outside two, No8 Waiterimu Gem and No7 Portland Avatar for the quinella, but plenty of chances outside those two.

R5 No4 Sending Me returns to her preferred circuit and looks a  good bet. No3 Stop Working can run the quinella.

R6 Small field. No3 Opawa Toby must be on top, No6 Opawa Raison might be the quinella here.

R7 No2 Tiny Teeny has good box manners. No3 Neo is drawn to get a nice run on her back.

R8 No4 Big Time Lena looks a down grade special here. No8 Fritillary can get into the minors.

R9 Another even go. No8 Portland Coco , with a slightly  better start, but No5 You Turn appeals also.

R10. No4 Portland Fonzie is racing just so well, but he will need to out jump No5 Simek , Grand race this.

R11. Another grand C5 sprint contest. Sticking with No8 Portland Mark on the fresh side, but No3 Midnight Rex has a big finish and there are a couple of others that can win , without surprising.

R12 No5 Opawa Vanessa looks today’s best bet. No3 Opawa Selena is a nice quinella prospect.

Quaddie R9.

8,5,2,3.
