J.R.’s Club Comment & Sunday Selections

19 July 2026

Reality is really starting to hit home now as we approach our second to last race meeting.

Your Board and management vowed that we would race at the Sports Bowl till the end and provide as good a  race day experience we possibly could for all our faithful supporters.

We are in site of that now and the resolve is still there to ensure we get there.

This Sunday looks ok weather wise and may even be a touch warmer , which would be pleasant.

An 11 race card is on offer this Sunday , with the opener at the boxes at 12.58pm and the last pursues the lure at 4.23 pm , a nice program length.

Nice fields have been carded and although there looks to be a couple of standouts , other races look good betting prospects.

Star Bets is at the final week and a desperate finish looks on , but a longshot winner could still see several in the placed money. This has been a most enjoyable promotion and the banter and rivalry has been

second to none.

This week we have a very good Russell Hobbs Air Fryer up for the taking on R8. Place  entries into the box , we will draw seven names and assign a dog to each entry drawn , and if your dog wins , then your off home with a very nice prize. All those drawn will receive a $10 betting voucher.

Remember next week The $1000 members draw , three draws $600, $300 and $100 and you Must be on course to win . We are having two $250 meat pack raffles , on the final day which have been  most generously donated by Andrew and Tracey Scott, very loyal supporters of the AGRC.

Our final race day on the 26th July has seen massive demand for tables and we are at capacity , but still have room for people wanting to attend in the grandstand. We will have extra tote staff and our wonderful caterer , Gary Carr has advised that he will have extra staff to assist.

We are running out of time for the ultimate clean up on the punt , but lets try again .

R1 No8 Sweet has a real affinity with these races.No6 Mister Pressive was checked out of proceedings last week.

R2 No6 Sober Driver must be hard , back in class. Same applies for No3 Waerenga Sonic.

R3 No4 Entitled One has not raced of recent , but will be ready. No7 Portland Sasha looks the big danger.

R4 Chasing my money from last week on No6 Portland Abigail, better suited today.  Kennelmate , No5 Nordic Delight is the danger.

R5 This is a nice race for No6 Forever Flicky to return to form. No8 Not Quite White went very close last week.

R6 Even go this one . Always like the down grader , so No5 Honcho at value for me. No4 Baby Sass is one of the North’s most improved K9’s.

R7 No8 Running on Empty has been getting home strongly and can be rewarded. Kennelmate , No3 Stop Working looks a good quinella prospect.

R8 No4 Portland Fonzie has been very much the form dog in the North. Noticed No6 Cocoon the Food in front at the lure last week , she can nab the quinella.

R9 Like No4 You Turn today, looks nicely placed. No8 Portland Coco can roar home.

R10 No6 Hanzo River is in extraordinary form at present. Hard to go pass. No2 Wu Tang looks to map very well here and can be dangerous.

R11 No4 Aces looks a  strong prospect in the last. Watch the down grader again , No8 Fritillary will appreciate the class relief here.
