J.R.’s Club Comment & Sunday Selections

1 June 2025

The first day of winter sees a great days racing at the Sports Bowl , with 3 Silver Collar heats, two Waterloo Cup heats and two heats each of the Royal Commission and Hi Fi Allegro sprint features.

The weather looks ok for the weekend, so join us on course at Manukau , enjoy the facilities , the food and beverages and we will have the Warriors match on screen at 4pm for all those that want to watch.

There will be a Last Man Standing  Competition with a $300 prize available to the winning team , should they make it all the way through. We need a minimum of five teams so join in , its good entertainment.

Our very popular Star Best Competition concluded last week and well done to Gary Wright  and Tania Whyte for running first and second, a top effort from our regular attendees. We are planning another Star Bets Competition towards the middle of June , so watch out for the prompts in the race book.

Our first is dispatched at 12.24pm  this Sunday and the final is called into line at 4.42pm.The fields in the main are very even , so that means the chance of some better odds. Here are our fancies  on the day.

R1 No8 Wild Pansy looks ideally placed, and is one of the day’s better bets. No7 Hunter Karen is usually a quick beginner and can feature.

R2 No8 Bigtime Lena missed last week but can redeem herself here.No6 Portland Jessie is very fresh and can run a race here.

R3 No4 Foxtrot Mila is nicely placed today. No7 Apache Blyde is racing consistently . No8 Clear Passage is well down in grade and has pace.

R4 No5 Quintessential is a very quick dog and in fresh here. No7 Hedwin Bale has a quick winning time here.

R5 No2 Lions Den is fresh up , but is Group 1 placed and a Group two winner. Will be ready . No8 True Ability  has a picket line fence , but is on track debut.

R6 No6 Grand Vue Ace is a grand stayer and looks very strong here. No5 Trenzalore  is still racing well and can place.

R7 No5 Johnny Football will be all the rage , can he see it through ? No8 Little Dodo brings winning form North.

R8 No8 Chief Dribble , last years winner , who likes this circuit. Must be tough , but no certainty today. No4 Caret Smuggler is an interesting runner, has looked strong up to 650 metres.

R9 No5 Xisco Bale and No6 Boom Dynamite look a very sound quinella. Both have track experience.

R10 Very even go, this heat . No2 Fear to Tread has track form , No5 Zestful is talented but new here. The local No4 Turtle Watch would need to lead , but he has done that here before.

R11 No3 Waerenga Sonic is a favourite of ours and can go extra close to winning this. No6 Cappiello is a chance at big odds.

R12 No3 Opawa Bait and No2 Cartoon are both on hattricks. Perhaps No3 Opawa Bait.
